From Latkes to Menorahs: Chanukah Through Little Hands
The school smells of latkes and sufganiyot, the kids are full of excited energy, the air is crisp… Chanukah season is here! Our little ones have been busy getting ready for Chanukah with so much creativity and excitement! From crafting their own menorahs and frying up delicious latkes to preparing for the lively "Twirl and Zip" Chanukah show, the joy of the season is shining bright in every corner of our school.
Our primary-aged classes rolled up their sleeves and got to work creating the sweetest menorahs around! Using clay, the kids rolled nine little "donut" balls, let them dry, and then transformed them into colorful, sprinkle-covered treats with hand-painted designs. With a little help from the Morahs, they carefully glued their donuts onto a tile, creating menorahs that are as creative as they are adorable—strictly for show, of course!
The Butterfly Class took menorah-making to the next level with a vibrant twist! They used permanent markers to color their tiles, carefully choosing their favorite hues. Then, the real magic happened—using droppers and rubbing alcohol, they created a stunning tie-dye effect. To finish, the Morahs helped them attach shiny hex nuts, turning their colorful creations into one-of-a-kind menorahs.
Nothing says Chanukah like the smell of freshly fried latkes! The kids got hands-on in the kitchen—peeling, mixing, and shaping the potatoes with care. With a little help from the Morahs, they watched their latkes sizzle to golden perfection. Of course, the best part came next—tasting their crispy creations! Yum!
The excitement reached its peak as the “Twirl and Zip” Chanukah show brought all of our holiday festivities to a joyful close! The children celebrated with their favorite Chanukah characters—including Judah the Maccabee himself. It was the perfect way to end a week full of menorah-making, latke-frying, and Chanukah fun.
Wishing all our families a wonderful break and a Happy Chanukah!
